Now that back-to-school and Fall are upon us, we'll need places to hang our coats, hats, and bags. What better place to do this than a coat rack?
Who else watches TV shows and movies with an eye on the interiors? We're knee deep in Mad Men now, I recently I've been very distracted by the coat racks in every scene. Those men needed a place to hang their hats.
Around the same time, I noticed that I had been pinning (Pinterest) a ton of photos with coat racks in them. A subtle influence from Mad Men? Who knows.
But think about the coat rack. It's a functional way to hang many coats, hats, bags and takes up very little space. And they call to mind so many other lovely items: trees, chandeliers, a vase of branches...
I'm keeping my eye out for coat racks at thrift shops, antique stores and on Craigslist for our unfinished entry stairwell:
My only worry is that it would so quickly be loaded down with items, it would cease to be attractive!
I always wanted to have a coat rack in my foyer but my foyer is too tiny. Anyway, lovely inspirations, as always!

A few of those are really cool but I don't have room for one either. Maybe you could start a collection of them.
ReplyDeleteCute post! My husband and I got a bentwood coat rack as a wedding gift years ago and I'm not sure what happened to it!
ReplyDeleteLots of great images here. It looks like you have the perfect spot for a coat rack.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean by it getting so encumbered as to cease to be attractive. You may not even have noticed mine (in the sun room) it's so loaded with Larry's hats. You can have it when we move to the retirement home but doubt that you want to wait that long! I bought it when I was in college at an auction of thongs from an old hotel downtown. back when they were tearing down "old" aka historic buildings rather than restoring them. Glad we've learned a little over the years.
ReplyDeleteGood round-up. That 5th image is amazing: a really unique coatrack and the herringbone pattern on the floor is very unusual.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm just wishing Herman Miller would re-introduce the limited edition Eames hang-it-all coatrack with walnut hooks. So sad they ran out before I could order one...

I am looking for one too! That entry with the red door is one of my favourites!
ReplyDeleteA coat rack was the perfect solution in a small apartment I once lived in that only had one closet. I don't know what we would have done without it!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I'll keep my eye out for you!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

I have never been a huge fan of coat racks, but I think you may have just changed my mind :). These inspirations are great, but I'm like you...I think it might get bogged down with items and cease to be pretty. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, the key to the pretty coat rack is that it is sparsely covered! That might be tough. Good luck with flea market hunting. Oh, and as usual, I love all your inspiration images!
ReplyDeleteLove all the images you used. I have an antique wall mounted rack where we put everything from hats, jackets, to the dog leash. It doesn't take up floor space. The place you are thinking of would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteI think to keep that area you mentioned less messy looking, just install a wall coat rack. Everything will go along a line and look much nicer. A coat rack will only add to the floor space and make it visually smaller.
ReplyDeleteThat's my take on it!
Cheers!
