Purple/lavender/plum. Generally, it wouldn't be my first pick for decorating.
But there are a few photos that have made me change my mind.

I love purple in small doses set against black!
Of course, Mother Nature never does anything wrong with purple.

I have to admit that an abundance of purple with turquoise is pretty striking too.
Are there any colors you generally avoid?

I don't think there are any bad colors, just bad shades. I love purple when it's bordering on brown. I guess that would be aubergine.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a yellow person.
I'm with you on this color. I like the pictures you posted and agree purple w/black is very cool. I also like it with lime green. Like in this picture: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7NbW2k5HLBU/TeT0q6_BwqI/AAAAAAAABxw/OSVRVcDeuCY/s1600/pic4.bmp
ReplyDeleteThe chairs are painted purple and I like the lime green accent wall!
I thought the title said "I have a hard time with people". :) I just had to see who was giving you a hard time!
ReplyDeletePurple with black is very grounded and the furthest thing from pastel. I also like aubergine and black plums. They have mystery and a bit of sensuality about them.
ReplyDeleteAnd I just have to say that Emily's comment cracked me up :)
I avoid purple too! I don't know why. I'm sure it has something to do with my Mother's disgust with the color...I'll have to get over that because these images are quite convincing! Great purple post!

I agree with you-- I don't tend towards purple at all either...in my clothes, decor or in flowers-- even though-- I do like it when I see purple in the right doses! Take care, Caroline
ReplyDeleteI love those purple patterned throw pillows. Do you think they would look good on my brown leather couches?
ReplyDeleteFunny, I have a thing against purple too. But I do love how rich and inviting the plum and berry shades look against black. Just not sure I would do it in my home. That said, I could also see liking a really light lavender, especially it's paired with a super soft grey.
ReplyDeleteThose photos are gorgeous... I've always been a fan of a deep plum or eggplant, but strayed a bit from pale shades of lavender - not sure why. I love deep rich colors, I guess!
ReplyDeleteI generally try to avoid hot pink with black! I am not crazy about this color combo and every time I sees it in a girl's bedroom, I started to cringe!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, purple and black is not a color combo I would think of when it comes to decorating but these images might just change my mind!

Oh, I love the flowers and hint of purple but I have a really strong aversion to orange!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd say that peach and burgundy are generally colors I avoid in decorating. They remind me a bit of the '80's...and not in a good way.
ReplyDeleteIt's rare for me to say I don't love a color but I am with you on this one, this shade doesn't speak to me much either but I really do like what you've found here, that purple & white against black works really well :)
ReplyDeleteI really like purple with black or grey- and in small doses it's not too overwhelming. I definitely think of it used in a very modern space...but in your photos it is beautiful in traditional spaces as well!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't think of a color that I purposely avoid, but after reading Jessie and Carrie's comments... I'd have to say I definitely avoid pink. Not sure why other than I just don't gravitate toward all the stereotypes that usually come with pink. I used to avoid yellow like the plague, but have recently added it around our house. We have different shades of grey on almost all of our walls and yellow is always a good compliment to grey.
ReplyDeleteI like the darker shades of purple a lot... esp in the fall and winter (ie dark purple velvet pillows) :)
Yes...I think purple would also be a hard color for me but the way you have shown it is lovely...that last photo of the lilacs...wow!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely more of a plum color for me.....but those pictures certainly have not overdone it!
