Dreaming of a Bedroom Redo (after the kitchen is done, of course)

When I saw this photo of a bedroom in the last issue of Coastal living, it was love at first sight.

I tore it out, and the next day when I looked again, I realized that the chevron pillows are similar to a vintage blanket I bought recently.

I could achieve the same effect if this were folded at the end of the bed.

So, I think I have to use the Coastal Living picture as inspiration for our very boring, very beige bedroom:

How about standard shams in this pattern from West Elm?

And some euro shams in the mustard (also from West Elm) to bring that color in elsewhere on the bed.

Here's my inspiration pic again for reference.

And this $150 upholstered headboard from Walmart with a home made white ribbon and nailhead trim treatment?

And maybe some of this smaller patterned vintage gold and white fabric made into a throw pillow for fun.

For the bedside tables, a pair of these ceramic lamps from Goodwill that I've had stashed away forever.  They need the tacky home-made paint treatment from the 80s scraped off and some pretty barrel shades added.

It's so much more fun to dream than it is to do, isn't it?

  1. I love, love, love the inspiration picture, and that blanket is so meant-to-be!! This looks like a really fun project!

    ciao from Newport...

  2. I see that headboard comes in leopard. You may want to rethink the plan. I think that would look awesome with your vintage afghan.

But your plan is really nice, too!

  3. I love your headboard idea! We just did a mini redo on our bedroom (color change) and I am really enjoying it! We also got rid of a ton of stuff that we were "storing" in there to get ready for the baby, so it actually feels like a bedroom and not a storage unit!

  4. Oh, can't wait to see...your plans sound great!! Such wonderful finds! Take care, Caroline

  5. Sounds like a fabulous plan! Can't wait to see what you come up with! I love your inspiration photo- very soothing and beautiful at the same time.

  6. Very beautiful inspiration. And I love all your finds, the chevron blanket (so unique), the headboard (so pretty and budget friendly, totally my style) and that fabric you found is just gorgeous, it looks like a designer fabric! Maybe you can use the gorgeous fabric to upholster the headboard or make a slipcover for it, I am sure it will give you more bang for your bucks. Anyway, I can't wait to see what you do with your bedroom. Your plan sounds awesome! I am sure everything will turn out great!

  7. It is way more fun to dream. Today instead of working on our much needed countertops, we drew out a landscaping plan. So fun but so far in the future. Love the bedroom look.

  8. Keep going, your on to really good stuff! That blanket and the block print quilt and shams from West Elm are perfect. I have been eyeing that set for awhile.

  9. P.S. What do you think about a chevron color and print for my kitchen valence?! The yellow/gold would look great with the gray/green I think!

  10. Love the colors! It is a great room. Your blanket is amazing as well.

  11. Loving your ideas! The color palette will certainly add life to your room... always good to have a plan of what you want to tackle next. My problem is that I get decorating ADD and can't stay focused on finishing the project at hand! :)

  12. I think you are onto something. This plan sounds great - and yes, the dreaming it is much better than the doing.

  13. Oooh! I love it! Everything seems to be falling into place too. That blanket is awesome! Love your current lamps too :)
    Can't wait to see more

  14. I came back to look at the stare at the picture longer and is it just me, or is there a cartoon lady in the blinds?

  15. I saw that picture also and loved it. Located the sham fabric and it was the price of a small car. I REALLY love it though :)

  16. Ah, that inspiration room is, simply put, awesome. Love your plan.

I enjoy reading every comment.
